How We Started

CrossLife Community Church is a church plant out of Heartland Church in Columbia, Maryland. Heartland Church launched in 1996 with a goal to start a new church within four years. That goal was met with the birth of CrossLife Community Church in 2003, pastored by John Mackall.  John served as a Church Plant Intern for Heartland from October 2002 to October 2003.

CrossLife held their first service on October 26th, 2003, with a small core group of people worshiping in the pastor’s home in Elkridge. By December we had grown out of our home, and God provided a new worship space at the Main Street Barber Shop in Elkridge, Maryland. While this might sound strange, it worked great. Again God blessed us, and by March, 2004, we outgrew the Barber Shop and began to utilize the triple-wide, green trailer and fellowship hall of Grace Episcopal Church in Elkridge.

By August 2004, another change was at hand, and CrossLife began to worship at the Patapsco Manor in Elkridge. From there we moved in 2005 to hold our Sunday services at Rockburn Elementary School in Elkridge on Montgomery Road, where we stayed through March, 2017.

Today we are in Elkridge Elementary at 7075 Montgomery Rd, Elkridge, MD 21075  We feel that part of our mission to Jerusalem reminds us that we serve our community.   By being in a school setting we are an example, we provide support for the school, and we can bring the word of God to others in our community.

John graduated in May of 2002 with a Masters of Divinity with Counseling. It was in the last year of seminary that God called John and Michelle to come home to Maryland to start a church.
